LONDON (Reuters)- Pamumunuan nina Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray at Serena Williams ang cast ng fresh-faced hopefuls sa Wimbledon sa ikalawang linggo na magiging Federer-free zone sa unang pagkakataon matapos ang 11 taon.

Ang ikalawang linggo na sinasabing back-to-back blockbuster matches kung saan si Murray, kapwa nawala na sa kontensiyon sina seven-times champion Roger Federer at 2008 at 2010 winner na si Rafa Nadal, ay dadaan sa matinding pagsubok matapos ang ‘di makakalimutang kampanya sa nakaraang linggo.

Nawala na sa torneo sina Federer, Nadal, Maria Sharapova at Victoria Azarenka, ang lahat ay dating No. 1, pawang grand slam champions at napasakamay na nila ang sariling 35 major trophies.

Maagap na gamutan sa may HIV

LONDON (AP) – Ang mga bata at iba pang apektado ng AIDS virus ay dapat na agad sumailalim sa gamutan matapos makumpirmang taglay ang HIV, ayon sa mga bagong panuntunan ng World Health Organization (WHO) na nagrekomenda rin ng maagang gamutan sa mga adult.



Pinakamaaapektuhan sa bagong panuntunan ang Africa, na halos 70 porsiyento ng may HIV ay nabubuhay. Maraming mayayamang bansa ang nagpapatupad na ng maagap na gamutan.

Ang mga bagong panuntunan ng WHO ay inihayag nitong Linggo sa International AIDS Society meeting sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

May 34 na milyong katao sa mundo ang may HIV, ang virus na nagdudulot ng AIDS. Inaatake ng HIV ang mga pangunahing selula sa immune system na lumalaban sa impeksiyon na tinatawag na T-cells. Kapag bumaba na sa 200 ang T-cells, ikinokonsidera nang may AIDS ang pasyente. Sa nakalipas na mga taon, inirerekomenda ng WHO na simulan ang gamutan kapag nasa 350 na lang ang T-cells ng mga ito; ang normal na bilang ng T-cells ay 500-1,600.

Sa bagong rekomendasyon, agad na sasailalim sa gamutan ang pasyente kapag nasa 500 ang T-cells nito.

Bukod dito, dapat din na agad sumailalim sa gamutan ang mga edad lima pababa na na-diagnose na may HIV, gayundin ang mga buntis at nagpasuso, mga may partner na may HIV at ang may tuberculosis o hepatitis B.

(CNN) — Ibinunyag ni Demi Lovato na may mental illness ang kanyang ama bago ito pumanaw.

Pumanaw kamakailan ang amang si Patrick ng 20-anyos na singer sa sakit na cancer. At ibinunyag ni Demi na dumanas ng sakit sa pag-iisip ang ama.

Dati nang iniulat na siya at ang kanyang ama ay ilang taon nang hindi nagkakasama, ngunit mahal na mahal pa rin ito ni Demi.



“I’ve dealt with mental illness. My father dealt with mental illness,” sabi niya sa kanyang paglabas sa Good Morning America noong Hulyo 27. “He wasn’t able to function very well in society.”

Nilalabanan ni Demi ang bipolar disorder, at dati na ring inamin ang mga isyu niya sa pananakit sa sarili at eating disorder.

Ginamit ng bituin ang kanyang TV appearance upang ipahayag na magtatayo siya ng scholarship bilang parangal sa kanyang ama upang matulungan ang isang tao na bayaran ang pagpapagamot sa mental illness.

“I’m working with Cast Recovery, a treatment center I’ve worked really, really closely with, and I have trust in their program,” sabi niya.

Idinagdag ng X Factor judge na hindi sila naging malapit ng ama.

Ilang linggo bago mamatay, nanawagan si Patrick sa anak sa pamamagitan ng via Radar Online, sinabi sa website na “[I] just wanted his little buddy back”.

CLARK AIR BASE, Pampanga – Malapit nang matapos ang panahon ng paglipad ng mga luma at siraing eroplano at helicopter ng Philippine Air Force.

Dahil sa P75-billion modernization program para sa militar na ipatutupad sa limang taon, tiniyak ni Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III na makabibili na ang gobyerno ng mga makabagong air asset bago matapos ang kanyang termino sa 2016.



Sa kanyang talumpati sa ika-66 na anibersaryo ng PAF dito, sinabi ng Pangulo na balak ng gobyerno na bumili ng mga bagong lead-in fighter, long-range patrol aircraft, attack helicopter at air defense radar.

Aniya, hindi na dapat umasa ang sambayanan sa pagpapaayos at rehabilitasyon ng mga lumang eroplano na naglalagay sa panganib sa buhay ng mga piloto, tulad ng pagbagsak ng OV-10 Bronco plane sa Palawan kamakailan.

“Ang ganitong mga pangyayari nga mismo ang iniiwasan natin simula’t sapul pa. Kaya naman, nakatutok tayo sa modernisasyon ng ating pambansang tanggulan,” sabi ni Aquino.

Sa kanyang unang 19 na buwan sa Malacañang, ibinandera ni Aquino na nakapaglaan na ang kanyang gobyerno ng P28 million para sa AFP Modernization Program, kumpara sa P33 billion na pinagsamang gastos ng huling tatlong administrasyon.

“Asahan po ninyo, bago tayo bumaba sa puwesto, tumatanod na sa ating himpapawid ang mga makabago’t modernong kagamitan gaya ng lead-in fighters, long-range patrol aircraft, close air support aircraft, light-lift fixed-wing aircraft, medium-lift aircraft, attack helicopters, combat utility helicopters, air defense radars, at flight simulators,” anang Pangulo.

Giit pa ng Pangulo, batid niya ang limitasyon ng AFP sa pagpipilit nitong ayusin ang mga lumang eroplano at kagamitang panggiyera, tulad ng 17 M-35 truck, isang N-22 Nomad transport aircraft, isang Huey helicopter, isang LC-210 aircraft at isang MG-520 attack helicopter.

“Siyempre, hindi maaaring habambuhay na umasa na lamang tayo sa maya’t mayang rehabilitasyon at pagkukumpuni ng kagamitan. Sa tuwing lumilipad ang Air Force, nakataya sa kalidad ng ating mga eroplano, hindi lamang ang tagumpay ng kanilang misyon, kundi ang mismong buhay ng ating mga sundalo,” sabi ni Pangulong Aquino. – Genalyn D.
