Comelec handa sa imbestigasyon –Brillantes

Nakahanda ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sakaling magkaroon ng full-blown investigation kaugnay sa kanilang “intelligence funds“.

“It’s okay if they investigate our intelligence funds. But I think they should include Malacañang since it’s the one that approved it,“ pahayag ni Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes sa isang panayam.



Sakaling may imbestigasyon, wika niya, mapipilitan din si dating commissioner Augusto Lagman na ipaliwanag ang kanyang sariling intelligence funds kahit na ibinalik na niya ito.

“He should also be able to explain what he did to his I.F. I want to know what he did to the money since he did not return the check I gave him. He returned it but using his own check. It means that the money was used already,“ sabi ni Brillantes.

Nauna rito, kinuwestyon ni Lagman ang intelligence funds ng poll commissioners na hindi na kinakailangang i-audit, sinabing siya mismo ay nakatanggap ng P1.25 milyon sa kanyang maikling panunungkulan bilang poll commissioner mula Hunyo 2011 hanggang Marso 2012.

Nagresulta ito sa pagkuwestiyon ng iba’t ibang sektor, kabilang ng masugid nitong kritiko na Automated Election System Watch (AES Watch).

Ipinaliwanag ni Brillantes na ginagamit nila ang kanilang intelligence funds sa confidential na mga bagay gaya ng surveillance at pagtiyak sa mga pangunahing saksi.

“It is used for intelligence, for surveillance, for something confidential… matters that involve security and public interests,“ aniya.

“We use it for safe houses, which we don’t say where. These operations need funds,” dagdag ni Brillantes.

Itinanggi rin ng poll chief ang mga akusasyon ng AES Watch na kabilang sila sa mga pangunahing target ng diumano’y spy operations gamit ang intelligence funds ng Comelec.

“I can guarantee and I can swear to everybody that I am not spying or investigating the AES Watch,” ani Brillantes.
