TARLAC CITY, Philippines – Aabot sa 500 upland farmers sa Central Luzon ang makikinabang sa P5 milyong bamboo projects ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development ( PCAARRD).
Sa ulat ni DENR Regional Executive Director Maximo Dichoso, ang dalawang taong cash-for-work na proyekto ay naglalayong makapaglatag ng inisyal na 40 ektaryang bamboo plantation sa Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, at Zambales. Sa ilalim ng kasunduan ng dalawang ahensiya, maglalaan ang Laguna-based PCAARRD ng P3.5 milyon startup capital habang ang nalalabing P1.5 milyon ay magmumula sa DENR.
Target ng DENR ang 7,848 ektaryang bamboo plantation sa Central Luzon pagsapit ng 2016 sa ilalim ng National Greening Program (NGP).
Ang NGP ay nilikha sa bisa ng Executive Order No. 26 ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III para tugunan ang poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation at climate change mitigation and adaptation. – Leandro Alborote
