Pacquiao-Rios, tuloy sa Macau

Inihayag ng tagapayo ni dating pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao na si Canadian Michael Koncz na kumpirmado nang makakaharap ng Pinoy boxer si dating WBA lightweight at WBO light welterweight champion Brandon Rios ng United States sa Nobyembre 24 sa Venetian Resort, Macau, China.



Sa panayam ni boxing writer Rick Reeno ng BoxingScene.com, inamin ni Koncz na lubhang mapanganib na kalaban si Rios ngunit gustong subukan ng Pinoy boxer ang kakayahan ni Rios na kilalang slugger.

“It will be Brandon Rios, everything is squared away for the Venetian in Macau. Manny felt the style of Rios would be more fan friendly and make for a more exciting fight for the fans,“ ayon sa ulat. “Manny wants to come back and avenge the tragedy of what happened in his last fight and what better way than to get in a brawl with Rios. I think it’s a win-win for everyone.“

Naniniwala si Koncz na kahit natalo sa 12-round unanimous decision sa kababayang si Mike Alvarado kamakailan, perpekto ang estilo ni Pacquiao sa hindi umaatras na si Rios.

“It’s a perfect style for Manny and it’s going to be an exciting fight. Everyone knows that Manny likes to engage and brawl and everyone knows that Rios is going to come straight-forward and throw a lot of punches,“ dagdag ni Koncz.

Ito ang unang laban ni Pacquiao mula nang mapatulog ni Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez sa 6th round noong nakaraang Disyembre at inasahang magreretiro na siya sa boksing kung matatalo pa kay Rios.

Sinabi ni Top Rank promoter na ito ang pinakamalaking laban sa pay-per-view sa China na may 1.4 bilyong populasyon kaya masusubok nila ang pinakamalaking boxing market sa buong mundo.

“What’s gonna happen with this fight and event will be monumental from the standpoint of economics in boxing,“ ani Arum. “We have a whole program of how to market pay-per-view in China and we’re gonna go on a barnstorming tour of China. – Gilbert Espeña
