Bar owners sa Malate, nagtatag ng security force

Dahil sa umano’y dumaraming insidente ng krimen na nagiging sanhi ng pagkaunti ng dumadayong turista, nagkasundo ang may-ari ng mga restaurant sa Ermita at Malate na magtatag ng sarili nilang tanod sa lugar.

Tinaguriang mga “Biramake” volunteer, ang mahigit 100 peacekeeper ay armado lang ng dalawang bagay — isang pito at ang kanilang kaalaman sa iba’t ibang modus operandi ng mga nambibiktima sa turista sa lugar.



“For years, the primary concern of the restaurant and bar owners here in Malate was the safety of the people, including the foreigners, coming here in the area. Of course, we cannot blame the police since they only have limited number of personnel. What we decided was to help our local authorities by forming a security team in the area,” sabi ni Manila Association of Club and Restaurant Operators, Inc. (MACRO) President Lorenzo “Jing” Langomez.

May-ari ng Jers Music Lounge and Coffee Shoppe sa Malate, pinangunahan ni Langomez ang pagsasagawa ng security seminar para sa mga empleyado ng restaurant at bar na miyembro ng MACRO. Ang seminar ay naisagawa sa pakikipagtulungan ni Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5 Chief Supt. Ferdinand Quirante.

Ibinahagi ni Langomez sa mga dumalo hindi lang ang ilang tip sa crime prevention at modus operandi ng mga kriminal ngunit maging ang crash course sa counter-terrorism.

Sa pagtatapos ng lecture, namahagi si Quirante, kasama si Manila Fourth District Councilor Josie Siscar, ng mga identification card at pito para sa mga miyembro ng Biramake, na gagamitin ng mga ito sa pagpapatrulya.

Sinabi ni Langomez na karamihan sa kriminal na kumikilos sa Manila tourist belt ay sangkot sa pandurukot at mga miyembro ng grupong “Ativan.” – Leonardo Postrado/Manila Bulletin
