CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union ­- Para sa eleksiyon sa Mayo 13, nilinaw ni Police Regional Office (PRO1) Director, Chief Supt. Ricardo C. Marquez, na palalawigin sa limang araw ang dalawang-araw na liquor ban sa bansa, na ipatutupad simula Mayo 9 hanggang Mayo 13.



“Atty. Francis N. Tolentino, chairperson of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), requested the extension saying that the two-day liquor ban is inadequate in addressing the problems related to the taking of intoxicating drinks, and that the unfettered consumption of alcohol beverages nationwide, especially during these periods do not aid in the intelligent discussion of election issues by our citizens,” sabi ni Marquez.

”Given the harmful and extensive effects of alcohol, it stands to reason that the liquor ban should be in effect for a longer period, just as the gun ban,” paliwanag ni Marquez.

Sa gitna ng election fever, pagbabahay-bahay ng mga nangangampanya, bakasyon ng mga estudyante at kabi-kabilang pista, karaniwan na ang mga inuman at hindi akma ang ganitong sitwasyon sa mga lugar na may matitinding away-pulitika.

Gayundin, ang gun ban, na nagsimula noong Enero 13, ay patuloy na ipatutupad sa buong panahon ng eleksiyon, at saklaw ang mga lisensiyadong may-ari ng baril, na maliit na porsiyento ng mga kumokonsumo ng alak.

Samantala, mananatili rin ang umiiral na exemption, batay sa Section 3 ng Resolution 9582 ng Commission on Elections (Comelec). Sa Section 3 ng resolusyon, exempted sa ban ang mga hotel at iba pang establisimyento na sinertipikahan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) bilang tourism-oriented o nasa negosyo ng pagtanggap sa mga dayuhang turista.
