Suportado ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang inisyatiba ng Office of the Ombudsman na i-monitor ang pagtalima ng local government units (LGUs) sa ecological solid waste management law.
Ang Solid Waste Management Compliance Program ay inilunsad noong Abril 22 sa Earth Day sa layuning sukatin ang compliance at kilalanin ang best performing LGUs sa pagtalima sa batas solid waste management.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 9003, o Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, hinihiling ang mandatory segregation ng solid wastes; pagtatag ng LGU materials recovery facility; pagbabawal sa paggamit sa open dumpsites, pagkakalat sa mga pampublikong lugar, pagsusunog ng basura, paninirahan sa landfills; at iba pa. – Philippine News Agency
