Umapela kahapon si Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III kay Sultan Jamalul Kiram III na atasan ang kanyang mga tagasunod na umuwi na lang sa bansa kung ayaw nilang maharap sa kasong kriminal.
Sinabi ni Pangulong Aquino na ang isang tunay na pinuno ay dapat na isinasalang-alang ang kapakanan ng mga tagasunod nito.
“This is my appeal to you: These are your people, and it behooves you to recall them. It must be clear to you that this small group of people will not succeed in addressing your grievances, and that there is no way that force can achieve your aims,” pahayag ni Aquino.
“You are a leader of your clan, and every leader seeks the well being of his constituents. These times require you to use your influence to prevail on our countrymen to desist from this hopeless cause,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi ni Aquino na dapat agad na atasan ni Kiram ang kanyang mga tagasuporta na lisanin na ang Sabah dahil nakagagambala sila sa tahimik na pamumuhay ng mga residente doon.
Aniya, kung hindi aalis ang mga tagasunod ni Kiram, maaaring maghain ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas ng mga kaukulang kaso laban sa kanila dahil sa paglabag sa Konstitusyon.
“As President and chief executor of our laws, I have tasked an investigation into possible violations of laws by you, your followers, and collaborators engaged in this foolhardy act. May I remind you as well that as a citizen of the Republic, you are bound by the constitution and its law,” anang Aquino.
