Itinanggi ng Malacañang ang mga akusasyon na ginagamit ng administrasyon ang pondo ng gobyerno sa panliligaw ng mga boto para sa mga kandidato ng Liberal Party sa eleksiyon sa Mayo 13, 2013.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda na dapat na ipagpatuloy ng gobyerno ang pagkakaloob ng epektibong serbisyo sa mamamayan, may eleksiyon man o wala.
“Insinuations that the Aquino administration and its allies have been distributing PhilHealth cards and rice, and ‘rushing’ the implementation of public works projects, as part of the election campaign, reeks of a malicious, anti-people mindset that aims to cast aside our people’s welfare for the sake of a few soundbites,” saad sa pahayag ni Lacierda.
“At no instance — whether during this election period, or during the two years and eight months of the Aquino administration — were these services, or any government-funded initiative, rendered in exchange for political favors from voters or constituents. It is simply government doing its job — a job that must be done regardless of the political climate,” sabi ni Lacierda.
Ito ang naging tugon ni Lacierda makaraang hilingin ng ilang grupo ng manggagawa sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na imbestigahan ang umano’y paggamit ni Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III sa pondo ng gobyerno para matiyak ang maraming boto para sa mga kandidato ng administrasyon.
Partikular na kinuwestiyon ng mga labor group ang pamamahagi ng mga PhilHealth card sa pangangampanya ng Team PNoy sa Bohol, gayundin nang bumisita ang Pangulo sa teritoryo ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) sa Mindanao.
Nilinaw ni Lacierda na ang mga PhilHealth card ay ibinigay sa mga benepisyaryong miyembro ng MILF, alinsunod sa socio-economic program na Sajahatra Bangsamoro, habang pinabubulaanan na namahagi ng PhilHealth card ang Team PNoy sa Bohol.
Iginiit din ni Lacierda na walang kinalaman ang gobyerno sa pamamahagi ng bigas ng mga lokal na opisyal sa Bohol.
Gayundin, sinabi ni Lacierda na inaapura ng gobyerno ang mga proyektong imprastruktura “to ensure that their economic benefits reach our people before the election ban takes place.”
